GLC and Eddie Chumney (Let the Witch Hunt Begin)

Author // Mason Clover

So I tried to stay out of this, but watching brothers and sisters attack Eddie Chumney and GLC (God's Learning Channel) on Facebook has gotten really old.  Watching scripture in Matthew be thrown around as to why GLC isn't giving Eddie a biblical *trial* is just crazy.  Watching people attack people they have never met is completely unbiblical.  Guys, I don't know Eddie personally, and I have no issues with the teachings that I have heard.  I do know the folks at GLC but not well enough to automatically take their side.  Simply put, GLC gave Eddie a private email, one addressing concerns that were brought to them.  Concerns that could have also been brought to Eddie from the same viewers.  They offered to talk privately about this one topic, Two House / Ephraimite identity.  They go on to say that they stand behind a couple of his other teachings.  Eddie then proceeded to take this public.  I don't know if Eddie responded to GLC, none of us know.  I see no issue with you expressing your love for Eddie's teachings, but GLC is not the accusers.  Viewers just like yourself and myself are the accusers.  We act like this is an attack from the enemy.... it very well maybe, but it also maybe a whole bunch of misunderstandings.  The crazy thing is if Eddie and GLC were to be able to privately talk, or even with a couple of others close to each party there may have been the ability to work out these differences.  As of now there has been a witch hunt created against GLC,  how many of you truly know their hearts, or know what they are attempting to do?  Just because we have the Torah doesn't mean we can throw out the Love, Compassion, and Forgiveness that Messiah brought to earth.  In reading the Facebook threads and seeing the verbiage people are using, there is bitterness in their hearts through their words.  We all make mistakes daily and should have a little more compassion for each other.  We want unity, we want to show what the Father has shown in scripture to others, but we want to beat them over the head with our beliefs and drag them back to our cave in submission.  First try submitting, then allow the Father to work in Spirit.  This situation has been blown into a huge mess by the way it was handled.  Can you fault GLC for wanting to listen to those who have issues with Eddie.... no..... it is a shame that they are lumping Eddie in with the identity blood line crowd, but still they came to him privately and offered a conversation.  Eddie should never have taken this public at this time.  We need to focus on removing ourselves from  this situation (which is not ours at this time) and pray for those involved.  We need to show compassion to those who make mistakes.  Are the same people blasting GLC not the ones who sin against brothers daily?  I sin daily, so I find it hard that their are without some fault.  LOVE one another, show the compassion of Messiah to one another.  I am sure there will be a bunch of people who now have a problem with me for speaking out, but cool off, settle down, love another and let the Father work within both parties and both parties work with each other to sort this out.  If we want to be treated as adults and as redeemed precious saints we all must act like them and love our neighbors.

TV is a public forum. Eddie was not the first to be handled in this fashion recently by Amy Cooper, but no one took notice of Keith Johnson being canceled with the ultimatum that he coerce Nehemia Gordon into a debate with Andrew Gabriel Roth. I saw through that immediately as being a manipulative ploy, but after doing more research and seeing the incendiary comments that Baruch ben Daniel posts about Nehemia and also about Two House teachers/teachings I could see the blog trail beginning to form. Then after listening to Jono's interview with him it was clear he has no proof for his allegations nor any idea that it is not okay to blog in anger then delete later when calmer...but the damage was already done.

Mason, thank you so much for being a "voice of reason" in this matter. My goodness, Eddie has acted liked a spoiled child in this, instead of handling it like the "teacher" he purports to be. You should view his latest wherein he even admits he is "guessing" but yet makes some several horrendous allegations: http://www.watchmanofzion.com/ I'm appalled at the way Eddie and many of his "followers" have behaved. None of them apparently know that Torah commands us to be "set apart." Gleefully responding to divisive words and actions is NOT being "set apart!" Regardless as to what really happened, nobody has a right to jump on a lashon hara bandwagon to help Eddie beat up GLC. Unless we were right there to witness how and why GLC came to "fire" Eddie, NONE of us has a right to open our mouths. Shame on the Messianic community as a whole!

You say that Eddie took this mess to the public, GLC fired him. GLC is the one that took this mess to the public when they fired Eddie. The public who enjoys seeing Eddie on GLC has the right to know way Eddie was fired and decide if what GLC did was right, because the public is the one that keep GLC and Eddie on the air. The public that support GLC and the programmer are the one that should be telling GLC who they should keep on GLC and let go. I belive, and liked most of the public that GLC made a mistake in firing Eddie and until this mess is fixed the public is going to be talking about this, just like we are doing. I am praying for GLC and Eddie, that YHVH'S will be done.

I've been Eddie's friend for about 7 years, was his associate congregational leader for 5 of them.

My first reaction when I heard about the controversy was to take Eddie's side, but after some reflexion, I agree with your post.

This should have been kept out of the public eye until there was a chance to bring both sides of the issue before an impartial 'Beit Din'.

I sincerely hope that Eddie (And Monte, Rico, Bill, Brad and Jim) and the Coopers are able to work this out between them, but unless there is some pride-swallowing from both sides I don't see it happening.

I will be calling Eddie to see if I can speak some calm into the situation. I covet whatever prayers you and your readers can get in between now and then (I hope tomorrow), and also that they keep it before Avinu until there is resolution.

Brachot v'Shalom

The thing is we who are "taking" Eddie's side don't understand the way GLC handled it. They may have offered to discuss it privately with Eddie but when? After he was yanked from the line-up? I agree we should have love and compassion but anyone who has been a student of Eddie's for any time at all knows that any hint of him being a "bloodline" crowd advocate is completely bogus. I love GLC. I think it is a great work doing the Father's will. That's why this decision cuts so deep. Because it is so wrong!

Mason,
My 2 cents worth in response to your post.
I contacted AlCooper @ GLC by e-mail, asking if they could furnish me with a list of "proofs" that Eddie was teaching the Ephriam two house bloodline. I have heard his teachings and read several of his books and I did not get that. I am sure his accusers supplied "proof. I would like to read what he purportedly taught that gave that impression and judge for myself. As yet GLC has not responded. However they must have a great many e-mails & phone calls regarding this matter. I have greatly enjoyed GLG's 3o minute programs featuring Torah teachers and especially Doorways to Wisdom and Light of the Southwest I agree that we ought not to "bash" anyone, but to pray dilligently for YHVH to guide us in whatever we do. I have supported GLC and also Eddie in the past and will continue to do so Unless and until I have proof that what one side or the other is in the wrong. Shalom.

We must follow biblical principles. I didn't know what was going on until I saw the Facebook posts, it is sad that they couldn't meet one on one to discuss the issues rather than turn this into a circus!

You are right in what you have said, it is time for all of the criticism to stop. We should all be in prayer over this situation for both GLC and Eddie. We are all human and make mistakes. Let's not in haste make this worse or be part of the problem. Put it in the hands of YHVH'S and pray for wisdom, wisdom for all involved to do the right thing. Great and mighty tings happen when YHVH'S people humble themselves and pray.

Totally, none of us knows what is going on behind the scenes so lets stay out of it and just sit in prayer asking for wisdom and patience for all involved. Thanks for your post.
